Axis Bold As Love

From the classic rock era, it's tough to find a better 1-2 punch in one year too, Led Zeppelin I and II are the only other ones I can think of. I started by reviewing Are You Experienced and giving it a 9.1, 4th best thus far. Although still excellent, Axis Bold as Love falls just a bit short of that album.

One advantage Are You Experienced has over Bold as Love is the lack of decent songs and the high number of excellent ones - Highway Chile, Third Stone and May this be Love - 3 out of 16 that are "solid. Wheras Bold as love is really about half the album. Although since ratings are subjective if you compare the two it looks like Bold as Love is mediocre, but I believe ratings can be for different reasons for different albums - if a Who song has a 4.0 song rating and so does White Stripes, doesn't mean the White Stripes song is superior.

Anyways, Bold as Love has some of my favorite Hendrix songs - Bold as Love, Little Wing and Spanish Castle Magic all perfect 5.0's joining Manic Depression from Experienced as my favorite Hendrix songs. Castles Made of Sand is another great song along with some solid ones - Ain't no Telling, Wait until Tomorrow, Little Miss Lover, etc. The only ones I'm not big fans are EXP (freaky though), Up From the Skies and If 6 Was 9.

In the end this is another must have - just as pretty much everything Jimi Hendrix does, is. It's not quite up to the overall level as it's 1967 counterpart but still an awesome listen.
